Background

A dramatic fire erupted on Tomorrowland’s iconic main stage on Wednesday evening, sparking widespread concern just two days before the legendary music festival is set to begin in Boom, Belgium. No festival attendees are currently present, but a number of staff members are believed to be on site preparing for the event.

Just two days before the much-anticipated Belgian electronic music festival Tomorrowland was set to begin, the main stage caught fire. Videos circulating on social media show flames engulfing the intricately designed stage, with emergency responders visible nearby.

Local news sources have confirmed the incident, reporting that emergency teams were already stationed at the Boom festival grounds in Antwerp province. Nearby residents have been advised to keep their windows and doors shut as a precaution. While no festival-goers have arrived yet, several crew members remain on site working on setup.

First reported by Belgian outlet VRT NWS, the blaze broke out during what eyewitnesses described as a routine pyrotechnic test. Within moments, the stage—known for its jaw-dropping architecture, intricate LED displays, and moving elements—was engulfed in flames. Massive plumes of smoke were seen rising high over the recreation area, alarming nearby residents and fans online alike.

Firefighters from Boom and surrounding Antwerp municipalities rushed to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control within an hour. Despite the dramatic visuals circulating on social media—showing extensive scorch marks and sections of the stage appearing partially collapsed—officials confirmed that no injuries were reported.

Around 1,000 production staff were present on site preparing for the two-weekend event. Luckily, the venue was still closed to the public, and all crew members were safely evacuated, according to Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen. She emphasized that organizers are working “in close cooperation” with emergency services to evaluate the damage and determine if Friday’s opening can proceed as scheduled.

Although the official cause of the fire remains under investigation, initial accounts point to a malfunction during the scheduled pyrotechnics trial. The main stage is one of the most ambitious constructions in the electronic music world, often featuring nightly fireworks and immersive visual storytelling that defines the Tomorrowland experience.

This year’s edition—scheduled for July 18–20 and July 25–27, 2025—boasts over 600 DJs and live acts across 16 stages. The now-damaged main stage was set to host some of the biggest names in electronic music, including Anyma, Armin van Buuren, Charlotte de Witte, Amelie Lens, David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Martin Garrix, Fisher, Alok, Amber Broos, Job Jobse, ANNA, and many others.

Meanwhile, the Freedom Stage remains unaffected and is expected to feature the Symphony of Unity, a fan-favorite orchestral performance blending classical music with iconic dance tracks.

As fans anxiously await updates, festival organizers are racing against the clock to salvage the festival’s centerpiece and deliver another unforgettable Tomorrowland experience.Tomorrowland Main Stage Fire Threatens 2025 Festival Just 48 Hours Before Opening.

Tomorrowland first debuted in 2005, and last year’s festival drew an impressive crowd of 400,000 attendees.

This is a developing story—stay tuned for the latest updates.
